Alex, For the fishing site, judging by the amount of sea fishing going on from the newly re-opened Boscombe Pier (near Bournemouth, UK), there should be a big audience for your site. And in all seriousness, listening to the accents as I walked by you may need to consider hiring the services of an eastern european translator.

Good Luck with your ventures, and still a great site here Kirsty, I always look forward to your new posts

Great points Kirsty..

Nothing like getting sucked the wrong way to put you off track. I think it's important to think laterally when looking at niche's.. no niche has too many restrictions that you can't attack it.

Just sometimes it takes looking at it from a different perspective..

Ace as usual you are Kirsty

If I may add a few points on top of this great post. There is a great benefit to building sites and campaigns around products that you already have a passion for and knowledge of. One of the main advantages would be the minimal research time needed to construct rich, unique content for your sites - and content is king as we all know. I know affiliates who go the profitable route, rather than the passionate. For a seasoned vet, research time is efficient. On the contrary, for an individual just starting out in affiliate marketing the creation of unique content around a topic you have minimal know-how about can prove to be very tedious and time consuming.

And don't rule out the creation of your own unique info product, ebook, etc... If you have a vast knowledge on the topic this could prove to be extremely profitable in the long run. Tie in your own product to promote if possible and have other people be the affiliate rather than yourself.

great article Kirsty! I especially think your point about taking a project step-by-step and expanding as you go is great- trying to go from nothing to a fully developed massive site can overwhelm a lot of new affiliates.

Also, Alex- if you want some ideas on monetising those chillies let me know :-)
