Kirsty, thanks for taking the time to answer my question and in a way that gets across almost exactly what my issue was and why I was hesitant.

I get what you mean about my take on a niche being slightly different from anyone else, and I think that I will brainstorm it like you said as that seems a decent way to get my head down onto paper!

Also thanks to David for that other link which is also interesting. I guess I need to just get on and do it like you said!

Hi,

I have been interested in getting involved in affiliate marketing and have had all sorts of ideas following brainstorming sessions which tend to go off on a tangeant and before you know it it kind of gets out of control and turns into something completely different.

In respons to the letter I suppose the best way to see if it is worthwhile is to get on and give it a go and monitor the progress made. On the downside you could put in all that work only to find it was a waste of time. However, you don't know until you try.

Like anything in this business I'm pretty sure every niche which has an affiliate scheme will have been done. Question is can you do it better than others? Offer something different (no matter how slight)? Or can you grab a piece of the pie.

If you got a few big players and manage to build your site up, you never know one of them might even make you an offer to buy it? Lastminute.com went on a huge acquisition trail a few years back and some of the companies they bought were only a couple of years old and the owners made a tidy few million. Not a bad return after 2 years!

Just look at the huge number of voucher code sits and gadget/tech blogs/sites. At the end of the day as a one-man-band affiliate even taking a very small market share in some areas can provide you with a nice income. Taking just 2% of a £5m a year "niche" is £100,000 a year.

I say give it a go, keep your eye on the ball and monitor the progress made, and re-evaluate. Good luck!

Kirsty, brilliant, this has answered a question I was wondering about.
I have started a site in a niche where there already is a really good established site. I was wondering whether to improve my site or give up!
I better get working!
