Get some decent quality links, ie ones that take some effort and they will overcome any lining problems. If you still don't rank, get some more quality links....repeat.

Works every time:)

I would think that the 50 links on spammy social networking sites aren't the whole problem, rather the short period in which they were acquired and the proportion of these backlinks to other backlinks.

Checking the site seems to show around 60 backlinks. If the site jumped from 10 to 60 backlinks and the 50 extra are on questionable sites, that would be a red flag for Google. However, going from 120 to 130 over 1 month, using the same sites *might* not be a problem.

This is actually one of the most useful Ask Kirsty posts that I've read in a while, and I think it's because the site is included so we can see for ourselves (pictures are worth 1,000 words and all that...).

Might it also be worth checking to see if the RSS feeds have the full text in? If they do, perhaps change it so only a small excerpt of each post gets output to the feed, that way the scrapers will only get a bit of content?
