Well okay, maybe vermin is a bit harsh.

More life pests.

Had a friend who went out to australia for a few months and said they were trying to reduce the numbers of them, causing too many problems with the land.

Seems a shame to kill off such a peacefull looking creature.

Ahh cool, I didn't realise that you could eventually get up to them once they have got used to you. I guess they are like any animal really, it's just a case of familiarity!

They are adorable! Can't wait to see more pictures. It's amazing that you are so close to them where you live.

I don't think most Australians see them as vermin at all. However I know some people have issues with them eating up gardens and farmland and have problems with them.

People in our street love the kangaroos so I think in this little corner of Australia they are very much loved!

Do Australians really see them as vermin?

Seems hard to imagine comparing something like those little fella's with a rat.

Hey Richard. We gave them a fair amount of space as it was the first time we'd seen them in the garden and didn't want to scare them off. We took our pics from about 20m away.

I know that one other neighbour hand feeds them, so theoretically we can walk up and pat them once they know us. I don't really believe in doing that with wild animals, but we should be able to get quite close to them once they get to know us!

Aww! Lovely, how amazing is that! The best we get treated to is the occasional hedgehog or squirrel, but to find one of those in your garden would be fantastic.

How close did you manage to get to them?
